I make geospatial tools

Hi, I'm Chris.
I've been building software for 14 years, but I started out studying GIS in college. I still love working with geospatial data, satellite imagery, and anything that turns location data into something visually interesting and actually useful.
Along the way I've done development work across a pretty wide range of industries: finance, cannabis track and trace, water and energy utilities, and consulting. I've seen a lot of different business problems and learned to figure things out fast in new domains.
These days I'm focused on building tools that make data more accessible, more visual, and more interesting. Maps, geospatial analysis, cloud infrastructure, and the occasional project that's just fun to build.
My areas of expertise
I've spent 14 years building software that actually get used. Below are my areas of expertise.
Interactive Mapping & Geospatial Intelligence
Maps reveal things that spreadsheets hide. I build interactive, data-driven maps that let you explore and understand spatial data patterns.
- •Interactive web maps
- •Spatial data analysis and visualizations
- •Cloud-native geospatial pipelines
- •PostGIS and spatial databases
Cloud Infrastructure
I've designed and built cloud-native systems for everything from energy utilities, ETL pipelines and compliance platforms.
- •Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, AWS CDK)
- •Serverless architecture design
- •Data pipelines and ETL processes
- •Cost optimization and monitoring
Full-Stack Development
I build web applications that work, from prototypes to production - frontend, backend, databases and everything in between.
- •Web application development
- •API design and integration
- •Database architecture
- •Performance optimization
Technical Leadership
I've led engineering teams and I know what it feels like when a project is drifting. I can step in as a technical lead, review architecture, help your team level up, or just be the person who asks the uncomfortable questions early.
- •Design and architecture review
- •Tech stack evaluation
- •Engineering team mentorship
- •Code review and best practices
AI & LLM Integration
AI tools and LLMs are genuinely useful when applied thoughtfully. I build AI features that solve specific problems: RAG pipelines for search, agents for automation, and integrations that make the rest of your app smarter.
- •Agentic integrations
- •Prompt engineering
- •AI-driven data analysis
- •Integration with LLM APIs
Prototyping & Proof of Concept
I can help validate your concept by providing rapid prototyping and MVPs so you can gather feedback, and prove viability before committing resources to full-scale development.
- •Rapid MVP development
- •User testing and feedback integration
- •Technical feasibility assessment
- •Proof of concept demonstrations
Featured Projects
A few things I've built recently. Maps, tools, data projects, write ups.

Where Buying a Home on a Single Income is Practically Impossible
This map shows the price-to-income ratio for over 25,000 US zip codes. Only 23% of zip codes meet the conventional 3x affordability threshold.

CA NDVI Anomaly Viewer
Interactive map showing vegetation stress across California relative to a 6-year historical baseline, powered by MODIS satellite data.

Macro Calculator
Calculate your BMR and TDEE, set a fitness goal, choose a macro split, browse recipes, and build a daily meal plan - all in one tool.
